3 Cheap, Last-Minute Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day

 By ModernMom Staff

If money is tight this year, spending a fortune on V-day gifts is totally unrealistic. You shouldn't have to break the bank when choosing a gift for your man, and likewise, he doesn't need to empty out his wallet to get you roses, diamonds or an expensive dinner. Here are a few creative ways to spend Valentine's Day that won't make you cringe as you fork over that hard-earned cash.

1. Pamper Your Partner

So what if you can't afford that spa day? Try creating a spa at home! Grab some sensual oils and start massaging your man. Then, light some scented candles, open up a bottle of red wine and slip into a bubble bath together. Relax and enjoy each other.

2. Picnic at Home

If set-priced restaurants on Valentine's Day turn you off, then try a romantic dinner at home. We all know the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, so try to cook his favorite meal. Even if you've never made it before and it doesn't come out perfect, he will appreciate the effort! Instead of eating at the dinner table, throw down a comfy blanket and dine on the floor for a romantic change -- maybe even near a roaring fire. Use elegant dinner plates so it doesn't feel cheesy. Chill some champagne, serve strawberries to bring out the champagne's flavor and you're in for a memorable night.

3. Surprise Him with Sexy Lingerie

Another way to a man's heart (well, maybe not his heart per say) is with S-E-X. Yes, he's probably expecting it on V-Day, but what he won't be expecting is a new piece of lingerie that makes you look and feel sexier than ever. That will definitely get the motor running. Also, try to make the night about him for a change. Spend more time on his needs and yes, that might mean doing that thing he loves. He'll feel like the luckiest man alive, believe me.

Don’t Spend Thanksgiving Alone!

Are you planning on spending the Thanksgiving holiday on your own? Many people find that they just aren't in the right emotional place to spend the holidays with others. They haven't gotten to know any online matches well enough to spend a holiday with them. They don't want to endure another family get together in which well-intentioned relations ask about the status of their personal lives. And they have friends but planning a Thanksgiving dinner just sounds too tiring to be worked out.

That's okay. It's nice to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends but it's not the only option. And staying home alone with a microwave turkey dinner isn't the only alternative. You can go out into the world and make connections to be thankful for without having to deal with the intensity and pressure of new relationships, old family members and overwhelming friends.

Consider just spending a day out and about in your town. Somewhere in the city, other people are milling about. Visit a local park. Find a coffee shop that you've never been to which didn't close for the holiday and hang out there for a few hours. Seek out an event that's happening during the holiday. You aren't the only one who doesn't have specific plans; seek out others who are in the same boat. You can converse with them or simply wish them a Happy Thanksgiving, giving a fix to your need to socialize without causing your emotions to go into overdrive.

Almost Half of Couples Actually Break up on Valentine's Day

A survey has found that Valentine's Day, which is touted as a day of love, is being used by almost half of young people in Australia for breaking up.

A Galaxy Research survey of more than 1200 people aged 18-39 has found 47 percent have chosen to end it with their partner on or around Valentine's Day after taking stock of their relationship.

Commissioned by big-four bank NAB the relationships survey found most young Australians, 57 percent, did not like the day nor did they want to celebrate it as the most romantic of the year.

Almost half - 44 percent - of respondents said Valentine's Day was a cynical marketing exercise designed to make couples shower each other with flowers, chocolates or underwear, while one-in-four singles saw it as a day of dread and a time to feel bad about themselves.

The survey has been launched as part of a cheeky anti-Valentine's Day campaign spear-headed by social commentator and author Zoe Foster to encourage people to evaluate their relationships, including with their banks.

Foster, who co-wrote ''Textbook Romance'' with radio funny man Hamish Blake, said that while for some couples Valentine's Day could be filled with happiness it was also a time when couples assess their relationship and looked at options.

"Between New Year and February 14 is a time when many evaluate whether their relationships are right for them," the Daily Telegraph quoted Foster as saying.

"Almost half of young people will actually break up with their partner around Valentine's Day - it's almost what you could consider ''break-up season''," she said.

The survey found that as many as one-in-three unmarried couples used February 14 to consider their relationship while one-in-four, 25 percent, admitted to staying in a relationship over Valentine's Day even though the relationship had lost its spark.

"Trust, respect and honesty are all of incredible importance," Foster said.
"So, if your partner has cheated, or you''re feeling it's run its course, or you just don't bring out the best in each other, perhaps it's time to move on," she added.

Appreciating The One's You Love

-Heavenly

First let me wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! This is a time for making sure everyone that you love knows that you do in fact truly love them and that they are appreciated. This is such an IMPORTANT thing to do. From elder family members, to children, your lover and everybody in between...nobody who you claim to love should be left out; even if you do nothing more than just calling them or texting them to wish them a great day and tell them you love them. If you and someone you love are not speaking or maybe just got into an argument or anything like that...it doesn't matter!! People need to feel loved...no matter who they are or how much they can put on a front that they don't need any kind of love.

You never know what things a person may be going through; they may be under lots of stress, on the verge of a mental breakdown or even on the verge of suicide. Some people are very good at hiding how much they are hurting inside (trust me I know...I'm one of them) and you letting them know how important they are to you may just save their life! People need to be reminded of love and appreciation on a regular basis; it important to everyone that they feel needed, wanted, appreciated and loved. You should always make your partner feel these things; especially on this holiday. Of course, this holiday is when you need to be with your family, and all you may not be married, so you might not be bringing your partner with you when spending time with family...but that in no way means that you should leave them out. If you tell your partner that you love them, there is no way you should go through the day without reassuring them of your love and appreciation for them...even if you can't physically be with them today.

Reasons To Appreciate Your Partner:
*They love you
*They have been faithful/loyal to you
*They make you smile
*They give and don't always receive
*They have been there for you through rough times
*They treat you really good
*They listen to what you have to say
*They pray for you
*They share what they have with you
*They don't hurt you (physically/verbally)
*They are honest with you
*They are trustworthy
*They are always wanting to help you
*They don't put you down/talk down to you
*They keep themselves up for you
*They consider your feelings in decisions they make
*They will take care of you when you are sick
*They are concerned about your well-being
*They are always available for you
